Lo! A Croydon Digest

£5.00 / Sold Out

From February to June 2013 The Architecture Foundation's education programme investigated Croydon. The group studied England’s Alphaville and its hinterland exploring myth and perceptions of the place, as well as tactics for telling new stories about the town. Through workshops led by a range of artists, architect and designers, a group of young people from the London Borough of Croydon examined the area’s built environment, and the issues it faces. Workshops included AOC, Shumi Bose, Preston is my Paris, Bob Stanley and The Decorators.

This publication is inspired in part by The Suburban Press, a fanzine produced by Jamie Reid and Malcolm McLaren while they were studying at Croydon College in the late 1960s. Lamenting the changes they saw happening the town around them, the publication was a call to arms to challenge and question the developments that formed Croydon’s last building boom. Now the town is going through similar large-scale redevelopment, it seemed a fitting moment to revisit these themes; taking the Suburban Press back to Croydon College in collaboration with Level 4 BA (Hons) Graphic Design students.
